It all started with a family discussion about racial inequality. The tragic death of George Floyd became a catalyst for so many parents to talk to their kids about unjust racial profiling. At a home in Farmington, Connecticut, one such discussion evolved into a family art project, a Black Lives Matter sign, painted by the seven and four-year-old children and hung proudly at the end of their quiet driveway. Not two days later was the sign spray-painted white during the night, vandalized by an unknown perpetrator in a cowardly attempt to silence two hopeful kids.
With the help of their neighbor, the idea for Lemonade 4 Change was born. The eradication of racial inequality needs to happen today and only through education can we make that possible. When you buy a cup of lemonade from our stand, it helps us to bring books into our schools and libraries that both explain and celebrate diversity. When you purchase a virtual cup of lemonade online, it helps us to bring specialized educators into our community to teach children how to see color for the beauty that it is. By actively showing our kids that being different is what makes us special, we can raise a generation that brings an end to racism once and for all.
$1,500 will bring 100 racial equality and diversity books into our Farmington Public Schools and Libraries. $2,500 will bring educators right into our community to help our teachers lead meaningful conversations about race.
