Farmington Library Accepting Book Donations
The Friends of the Farmington Libraries are in need of donations of gently used books to support an upcoming sale beginning on June 5, as well as ongoing sales in the library’s Book Nook. Adult and children's books, hardcover and paperback, fiction and non-fiction, in excellent condition are especially appreciated. Games, puzzles and unique vintage books that are clean and intact are also needed. Donations can be brought to the circulation desk at the main Farmington Library at 6 Monteith Drive.
Please note that the Friends cannot accept books or other items in poor condition. VHS tapes, encyclopedias, magazines, Reader’s Digest condensed books, travel guides, books on finance or health dated prior to 2019, and other time-sensitive materials also cannot be accepted.
The profits from all sales are used to support high quality library programs for children and adults and help in the purchase of needed books, technology items and other library materials. Many of the supplies and services available in the library would not be available without the help of the Friends.

The Lewis Walpole Library's latest exhibition has been curated by Alison FitzGerald, Associate Professor in the Department of History, Maynooth University, Ireland. Open Wednesdays 2-4:30 pm and other times by appointment. On view March 5 through August 22, 2025.
This exhibition explores the range of spectacular shows that were offered to the fee-paying public in Georgian London, from exhibitions of paintings, to scientific demonstrations, to the display of wondrous animals. The exhibition primarily focuses on images drawn from the extensive collections at the Lewis Walpole Library that announce, depict and satirize what people paid to gaze at. It will consider how derogatory ideas about spectacle were expressed in caricatures and political discourse.

Why all-girls Leadership Programs Create Future Female Leaders
Did you know that girls in single-gender learning environments develop higher confidence and leadership skills? Summer Programs at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT offer exclusive all-girls leadership camps that inspire elementary through high school students to think globally, act boldly, and lead confidently. Girls who attend Summer Programs are positioned to lead and have access to programming that will prepare them to be leaders in high school and beyond.
Research shows that all-girls programs create safe spaces for young women to speak up, take risks, and lead with courage. That’s exactly what Miss Porter’s School’s Summer Programs are all about. Studies have consistently shown that girls thrive in leadership when given space to develop their voices in supportive, single-gender settings.
Miss Porter’s School’s Summer Programs are built on these principles—creating a dynamic environment where girls gain hands-on leadership experience while learning from inspiring female mentors. There are two Summer Programs tracks, one for elementary school girls and one for middle school and early high school girls.
Daisy Days is Miss Porter’s School's new day camp for girls entering grades 3-5 in the fall of 2025, from June 23 - August 1, 2025. Designed to be full of joy and discovery, this day camp helps girls find their confidence to be their unique, authentic selves while having a ton of summer fun. They will explore music and dance during Swiftie Summer, expand their imaginations during Enchanted Explorers, or be their authentic selves during Bee Brilliant!
Summer in Farmington is a residential camp for middle school girls entering grades 6-9 in the fall of 2025. This program has been running for over 20 years. Campers can choose to work intensively on their leadership skills through the Sarah Porter Leadership Institute, work towards making positive change in their communities through the Lead with Impact program, or gain specialized content knowledge and skills through one of our three Institutes run in partnership with Miss Porter’s School academic departments.

Jeremy's journey to feeling empowered as an autistic individual and his work as a professional helping others on that journey give him a unique insight into how autistic empowerment is cultivated. Farrell's presentation is not a textbook on the do’s and don’ts for working with or being an autistic individual. Instead, it encourages attendees to think critically about the benefits of open communication and self-advocacy for their lives and the lives of those around them.
Farrell will discuss two effective paths to autistic empowerment which each must be addressed and understood in their own way but also compliment each other. These paths include open communication and self-advocacy. By embracing these concepts we can take meaningful strides towards creating an effective environment for fostering autistic empowerment. Farrell will use examples from his personal and professional life to help attendees form a comprehensive understanding of the common barriers autistic individuals have with empowerment and how to make the most of the paths to success.
