Unionville Pediatrics (U Peds) is thrilled to announce that it will now treat well and unwell patients in two different locations, helping to ensure the safety of healthy patients and reducing the potential spread of contagious illnesses in the local community.

The main U Peds office at 101 Main Street in Unionville will welcome well visits, consults, and non-contagious issues including medical checks and behavioral health concerns. The new office, U Peds Acute Care Center (ACC), will provide care exclusively for children who are feeling unwell and experiencing symptoms of illness. The ACC is located at Round Hill Square, 1027 Farmington Avenue (Route 4) in Farmington, across the street from Tunxis Driving Range and next to Claudia’s Sandwich Shop. It will open for current U Peds patients starting on November 16th.

“It has long been the vision of the practice to separate ill patients from well ones and the onset of COVID-19 has accelerated that process,” said Unionville Pediatrics Senior Partner Peter Jannuzzi, M.D. “With the second location, we are now able to provide a safe place for sick children to be treated without the risk of infecting other children. This will allow us to see and treat all of our patients comfortably, ensuring that ill children get the care that they deserve in a safer environment for all.”

The ACC office will feature extended hours from 10 am until 7 pm on weekdays and a U Peds doctor will continue to be on call at all hours, every day of the week. Patients will be able to schedule visits through the main office line and will be directed to a location based on the child’s reason for visit.

The ACC will offer full COVID testing capabilities including rapid tests in office, full tests that are sent to Quest Labs, or both as dictated by the case, plus strep and influenza testing. Suturing and x-ray will continue to be referred out to appropriate practitioners.

In addition to providing excellent care to unwell patients, the team at U Peds wants to ensure that parents don’t skip important well visits for fear of putting their children at risk.

“Well visits play a critical role in monitoring a child’s development and we understand that parents may not want to take a risk bringing their child into an environment where disease can spread,” said Dr. Jannuzzi. “By seeing only healthy children in our main office, we can ensure that parents have peace of mind while also keeping vaccines up to date and monitoring patient’s growth and development. This is very important to us and we are excited to be able to provide our patients with this unique and timely approach.”

Current U Peds patients can call (860) 673-6124 to schedule an appointment for either location starting today. The practice is also happily accepting new patients and will accept referrals from other local providers to be seen for acute visits at the ACC.
