In April, the Hill-Stead Museum was selected as one of 24 institutions around the world to receive a grant on behalf of the Bank of America Conservation Project. This year's class features collections from the likes of the Louvre, Smithsonian, and Guggenheim and includes a large array of different media, art movements and time periods.

Through the end of the month, the museum is hosting renowned art conservators, David Bull and Teresa Longyear as they work to restore and preserve three priceless masterpieces, Degas’s Dancers in Pink (c. 1876), Manet’s Toreadors (c. 1862-63), and Monet’s Fishing Boats at Sea (c. 1868). Upon completion, these paintings will return to permanent view within the Hill-Stead.

Spectators are invited to watch from outside the Glass Room as David and Teresa return these pieces to their former glory by removing layers of discoloration and dirt that have accumulated over decades, restoring their original vibrant colors. This exhibition is included in the price of museum admission.

Those interested in learning more about the findings of this project and art conservation in general are invited to attend a panel discussion on Wednesday, July 24th at 5:30PM. Advance registration is recommended, and capacity is limited.
