Every year, Farmington High School’s Robotics team, The 2nd Law Enforcers, designs, constructs, and programs its own robot in just 8 weeks for competitions hosted by an international organization called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).
This March, the team won the Excellence in Engineering Award, the most prestigious of awards for machine ability and team attributes, at the Western New England District competition in Springfield, MA.
The team’s accomplishments aren’t just limited to turning gears and colorful wires. Founded in 1997, it is known for impactful outreach initiatives. The Enforcers foster STEAM interests in children by hosting several large events and supporting an average of 15 local middle school and elementary school robotics teams. The team also partners with the Farmington Library at the annual Farmington Maker Fair, leading hands-on activities and holding a robot demo.
The team credits the efforts of mentors and corporate sponsors in supporting them in their journey through the years.
The 2nd Law Enforcers would benefit from any type of support, from mentorships and financial donations to tools and even food. The team hopes to expand its outreach to have a greater impact on a regional scale. Feel free to reach out and connect with them on their website (https://farmingtonrobotics.org/contact/). The team always welcomes the community to their events and enjoys sharing what they do.
