Announces $24,000 in Grants to Seven Nonprofits Serving Farmington

Farmington, CT, October 29, 2021 – The Farmington Greater Together Community Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving recently announced its inaugural grant awards. A total of $24,000 was awarded to seven organizations to benefit the residents of Farmington. The grants were awarded to:

 Connecticut Humane Society - $3,136 to support Fox Memorial Clinic, which provides low-fee veterinary services to Farmington residents who cannot afford veterinary care for their pets.

Farmington Food Pantry - $5,000 to purchase fresh, locally sourced fruits and vegetables for pantry clients for 6 months starting in October 2021.

Farmington Libraries - $1,250 to purchase items for "Library On the Go," an outreach program that will visit the Farmington community where people gather, at events, local schools, the Senior Center and assisted living facilities.

Hill-Stead Museum - $2,500 to support the 2nd Annual Juneteenth at Hill-Stead, a day of celebration featuring regional Black artists, organizations and Black-owned businesses.

Interval House - $5,000 to support “Victim to Survivor: Transformations at Interval House,” a program that helps Farmington clients with safety planning and counseling, court/legal advocacy, transportation to job interviews and work, finding affordable housing and establishing independence.​​​​​​​

Junior Achievement of Southwest New England - $2,500 to support financial responsibility and work ready programming for Farmington High School and West Woods Upper Elementary School students. ​​​​​​​

New Horizons Village - $5,000 to help purchase a new wheelchair accessible vehicle for their medical transportation program called "Sunshine Wheels."

 In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 community funds for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region, which includes the town of Farmington. The purpose of the Greater Together Community Funds program is to support the community in taking ownership around the needs in their towns and encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement. In 2020, Farmington’s Community Fund Advisory Committee was selected. The list of current members is available here. 

 The Community Funds program also creates an opportunity for organizations and individuals to make tax-deductible contributions to support their towns. Donations of any size are appreciated and can be made at hfpg.org/FarmingtonCurrentUse or hfpg.org/FarmingtonEndowed.
