Community Services & High School Music Department Collaborate

Farmington Community Services (FCS) and the High School Music Department invite you to a special concert of uplifting “songs of hope” right in your own home…on the radio! This Sunday, June 14th, FCS has partnered with iHeartRadio to broadcast a show dedicated to senior populations in isolation due to the pandemic.  

The show, titled “Seniors for Seniors” is generously sponsored by Companions and Homemakers and will air across every CT iHeartRadio station at 7:00 am on Sunday (a repeat of the show will also air at 8:00 pm on the River 105.9). It features songs and compositions recorded by Farmington High School students from their own bedrooms, living rooms and personal “studios.” 

Distance learning and social isolation has affected every one of us, but senior citizens are particularly at risk from both the dangers of COVID-19 and the damaging effects of loneliness and isolation. Due to safety regulations, social activities for seniors are practically non-existent, including the annual FHS Music Department’s “Senior Café.” 

This musical performance for local seniors has always been a well-attended event showcasing students’ talents. It is a much-anticipated opportunity for two generations to benefit from social interaction and a shared love of music. With the help of iHeartMedia Communities, the concert has been reimagined and the students will still be able to send their messages of hope and support to some of their biggest fans.

Through staff and volunteer phone calls, emails, and virtual programming, Community Services has been able to connect with many seniors in town. But we need the community’s help to reach them all. Please share this show with neighbors, friends and relatives in isolation, in need of an uplifting message from the voices of the future.
